Types of Mechanical Seals

Cartridge & Component Seals

Cartridge : Mechanical seal is fully pre-assembled on a intregal sleeve and fastened to the shaft via a drive ring.Allows impeller adjustment without equipment dis-assembly.

Component : Mechanical seal requires assembly of parts on equipment sleeve or shaft

Types of Mechanical seals

Rotary & Stationary Seals

Rotary : Springs are located in the rotating part of the seal

Stationary : Springs are located in the stationary part of the seal

Types of mechanical seals

Inside and Outside Seal
Inside - Pressure is sealed on the outside diameter of the seal faces

Ouside - Pressure is sealed on the inside diameter of the seal faces

Spring mechanisms

Single Coil Spring Seal

Multiple Coil Spring Seal

Rubber Bellows seal

Metal Bellows Seal

What is a Mechanical seal?

A mechanical seal consists of two extremely smooth and flat surfaces (called "faces") held together to prevent any passage of fluid between them. One face must rotate with the shaft and is called the rotary. The other face is fixed and is called the stationary. The primary seal occurs at some position between the two surfaces. It is a device used to seal fluids on a rotating shaft, consisting of two flat rings, one rotating, the other stationary, mounted perpendicular to the shaft.A seal is achived by keeping the rings in contact with each other as the shaft turns.A mechanical seal is a method of eliminating visible leakage of fluids or gases from rotating equipment. The narrow seal face should be softer than the wide seal face.
